All Jacked Up

Now comes the fun part

The field is set in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Here's my quick thoughts on each driver:

Kyle Busch,
No. 18 Toyota

The younger Busch brother’s  move from Hendrick Motorsports to Joe Gibbs Racing wasn’t without some feelings being hurt. He’d love nothing more than to win a title his first year away from the top program in the sport.

Carl Edwards,
No. 99 Ford

The only guy who has really challenged Busch this season, Edwards will be a force during the Chase simply because of the schedule and his team’s success on the intermediate tracks.

Jimmie Johnson,
No. 48 Chevrolet

The two-time defending champ won’t go down without a fight, and the way he’s been running lately, a third title in a row is a strong possibility.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.,
No. 88 Chevrolet

Earnhardt Jr. left DEI for a reason, and that was to win a championship. Here’s his chance.

Jeff Burton,
No. 31 Chevrolet

Burton is Mr. Consistency, and if he can get a good start in the Chase, he might be tough to take down.

Clint Bowyer,
No. 07 Chevrolet

The question will be how much Bowyer has left after an emotional run just to make the Chase.

Denny Hamlin,
No. 11 Toyota

The FedEx Toyota has been good at many places this year, but not great. This team will need to avoid mechanical issues to succeed.

Kevin Harvick,
No. 29 Chevrolet

Consistency has always been the knock on Harvick, and it’s important for him to find it soon.

Jeff Gordon,
No. 24 Chevrolet

Never, ever rule out a four-time champ. Sure, he’s never won a Cup in a Chase format, but that doesn’t mean he can’t. Gordon is dangerous anywhere he goes, but there seems to be equipment issues.

Matt Kenseth,
No. 17 Ford

They might not be the best of friends, but it might be time for the 17 team to peek over in the garage and figure out what guys working on that red 99 are doing.

Tony Stewart,
No. 20 Toyota

No wins for Smoke ... yet. He’s been very successful at a lot of the Chase tracks, so a third title for the departing JGR driver is not inconceivable.

Greg Biffle,
No. 16 Ford

Biffle seems to always run into trouble on the track. If he keeps his nose clean, who knows what can happen?
