Carrying on in Kansas

I love this time of year. The Cubs are in the playoffs, the Bears are making me pull my hair out and it's a huge weekend in the Sprint Cup series.

This is where things get serious. We’ll find out after Sunday’s race at Kansas just who are the real contenders and who can pretty much start thinking about next season’s Chase.

I like Jimmie Johnson to take the win on Sunday.

The 48 starts on the pole and has been strong in practice all weekend.

But what really leads me to believe Johnson will find his way back to Victory Lane is the fact that he’ll be driving the same car that won at Indianapolis and dominated at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

Yeah, the win at the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard doesn't mean a whole lot since the longest run was 13 laps, but this car is really darn fast, and no one had anything for it out west.

It's chassis No. 504 and it seems like this is the thoroughbred of the Lowe's team's stable. I think good ol' 504 will wind up with another win and Johnson will assume the points lead after Sunday's race.

But with my prediction record at 6-22 this season (with many, many close calls) anything can and usually does happen. Regardless, it's going to be fun.

Until next time, keep hittin' your marks!
