I don't know why news of Sen. Hillary Clinton's impending concession sends such a shiver through me, but it does.Like everyone else, I got sick of the Democratic primary. I've started rolling my eyes at the thought of all the slinging Senators Obama and McCain will go through before one of them finally makes it to the White House.
But for now, today feels historic. It could lead to our first black President. It definitely leads to a different administration than we've had for the last eight years.
I'm ready to see some changes.

I'm not so sure that having McCain in office would constitute much change over the current administration...

How are McCain and Bush similar in their politics?

They are on the same page 95% of the time, as is well explained in the blog post linked above.

Sounds like a real objective piece. I wshould really change my opinion based off this piece. GMAB!

Sure, the tone of the piece (and the site in general) seems to have a bias against crooked politicians, but considering the abundance of verifiable facts cited in the post to support the case, it doesn't seem to be as much about an "opinion" as it is about a willingness to accept the reality of the situation.

It's good to know that merely being different is good enough these days. We haven't seen much discussion of the issues for months now.

That same article bashes the Bush tax cuts. Anyone with any economic sense has to realize that the Bush tax cuts were a great stimulus that led to vast economic growth in this country. During the Bush years we saw a very strong economy for 6 of the 8 years. Economic health was a plus for the Bush administration. Now the Obamanation wants to call for the largest tax increase ever, during a time of slowed growth? I can only imagine Adam Smith rolling over in his grave when I hear that.

The Real McCain:

The economic growth in this country during the Bush era has been phenomenal. Unfortunately, what has been growing is our debt, both individual consumer debt http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/06/news/economy/consumer_credit/?postversion=2008060615 and national debt http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5282521. With record foreclosures http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/05/AR2008060501501.html and the biggest jump in unemployment since 1986 http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jsanM66tszKz1zFq0LOG4XvWS7zAD914PMEO0, those stimulus checks are sure to do plenty of good.

So you want the government to determine how much debt you can incur? Not me, no thank you. The responsibility has to be on the consumer.
Oh and those stimulus checks, Barrack voted for them. Nice try.

I'm not saying that being different is all that it takes to be qualified to run the country, Wenalway. Issues like the war, healthcare and obviously, the economy, are incredibly important.
But the general election season is still pretty fresh. It's a little early to be making up my mind. I was just saying that finally having a Democratic candidate for the election is the first step in what promises to be an exciting few months.
