A broken ankle will keep Mike Davis from attending a series of USA Basketball trials.
But it might open the door for another Illinois big man to give it a run. It sounds like there's a good chance Mike Tisdale will replace Davis in the trials scheduled for June 16-24 in Colorado Springs.
Fifteen players will compete for 12 spots on a roster headed to the World University Games in Serbia from July 2-12. Purdue's JaJuan Johnson and Robbie Hummel and Ohio State's Evan Turner also were invited to the trials. Wisconsin's Bo Ryan is the head coach.
UI coach Bruce Weber is on the USA Basketball committee that helps to identify and select players for the trials, so there's a tie there. It's not a done deal, but Tisdale's name is in the mix to fill the slot vacated by Davis' injury.
