Where are all the Champaign County Board candidates?
Fifteen seats are up for election but so far five of the seats have no candidates, one district has a candidate for one of two open seats, three districts have two candidates for two open seats, one district has one candidate for one seat and only one district is guaranteed of a good, contested race -- that's District 1 in northwest ChampaignCounty where there are four candidates (three Republicans and one Democrat) for one seat.
Veteran Republican board members Steve Moser (a former county board chair) and Greg Knott, both in District 4, are the latest to file their candidacy petitions.
The deadline to file petitions of candidacy is Monday afternoon. The county parties, however, can slate candidates to fill those vacant slots next spring.
UPDATE: District 8 (Urbana) Democrats Tom Betz and Ralph Langenheim filed their petitions this afternoon. No other candidates -- Democrats, Republicans or Greens -- have filed yet in District 8.
