Missed the record by about a quarter of an inch

The Illinois State Water Survey reports today that Champaign-Urbana got 8.79 inches of rain in October, just .22 of an inch short of the October record of 9.01 inches set in 1941.
Normal rainfall for October in Champaign-Urbana is 2.81 inches.
On just 10 of 31 days in October did we not have any precipitation.
If you think it was wet here there were other parts of the state, particularly southwest of here, that received more than 12 inches of rain for the month.
Overall in Illinois in October, according to the water survey, the state got 8.9 inches of rain in October, short of the statewide record for the month of 9.23 inches.
October in Champaign-Urbana also was significantly colder than normal with an average high of 58 degrees (normal is 65.2) and an average low of 41.5 degrees (43.3 degrees is normal).
The highest temperature in October 2009 was a mere 72 degrees (on Oct. 20). The lowest temperature was 31 (on Oct. 18).
