Sorry about Word Scrimmage, comics

Fans of the Word Scrimmage puzzle and the several comic strips that run in the Classified section of The News-Gazette each day were disappointed with Tuesday's paper because the amusements did not appear.
We received a number of calls from people voicing their displeasure, and we're sorry for the inconvenience. We know readers look forward to their favorite features, and we don't like to leave them out of the paper.
On occasion, though, there's not enough space available for the classified ads and the amusements in the space allocated and the paid classified ads have priority. If you're wondering how that can happen, the room needed in the Classified section is based on an estimate of ads plus other material such as the comics, Word Scrimmage and horoscope. While the estimates are usually accurate, once in a while there's not quite enough space available to squeeze everything in. We'll try to catch up at the first opportunity.
We've also fielded some complaints about our At Home section in Saturday's paper, where we've routinely left some features out, such as Mr. Handyperson, again because of a lack of space. We've figured out a way to get more space for At Home features, so this should not be a problem in the future.
Fans of Mr. Handyperson will be sad to learn, though, that his column is being discontinued by Universal Press Syndicate at the end of this month. Just when we figured out how to get it back in the paper.
