Monday Randomness for 4/6

It’s Monday, and for me being an overnight worker that is returning after a weekend off it means two things.  One, I’m dead tired, and two, I can’t think straight.  My mind is all over the place this morning, so here are some random things that have crossed my mind.

-  Nice to see baseball win the series finale against Indiana Saturday.  The last thing you want to do is get swept at home by a school like Indiana.  Plus, that win keeps them above .500 in conference play (4-2) Josh Phegley, the Hoosiers catcher, is one heck of a hitter.  I was at Illinois field when he hit that bomb that bounced off the top of the scoreboard Friday night.  What a shot it was.

-  The Softball team had a nice weekend.  Freshman Monica Perry throws a no-hitter, and the Illini take two from Wisconsin on the road.  Terri Sullivan and company are 20-10 on the year, and a nice 5-2 in Big Ten play.  Hope they can keep it up!

-  I attended the Bloomington Extreme indoor football game on Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum and as always had a blast.  They beat the Sioux City Bandits 40-10.  Some of you might already know how much I enjoy the sport of indoor football since I talk about it from time to time on the air.  I was thinking though, how cool would it be if they had college indoor football?  I know this probably won’t happen since a number of colleges might have to build new arenas to play in (Champaign would fall into that category, unless they could find a way to get it done in the Assembly Hall, which I’m guessing would be tough to do).  Champaign needs a team anyway, college or pro.  It could be indoor football, or it could be minor league baseball, I really don’t care.  Maybe a year or two from now we can get a baseball team here for the summer.

-  Go Michigan State!

-  Major League Baseball is underway!  I watched a bit of the Braves-Phillies game last night and it got me excited for the season.  I really don’t care for either of those teams, but it’s baseball, and it was nice to watch a MLB game that counted toward the standings.  I’m not too sure about my Cubbies though.  I think the division is still theirs to lose, but I’m afraid they will get spanked in the playoffs if the make it again.

-  Deron Williams is ridiculous.  Maybe not making the All-Star team was the best thing to happen to him, because he has been on a tear since the break.  He is averaging over 19 ppg and 10 apg this season, leading the team in both those categories.  He has the Jazz 17 games over .500 (47-30) in the much deeper Western Conference.  They will be in the playoffs once again, but it’s still too early to tell whether or not they will start Game 1 at home or on the road.

-  Slow pitch softball here in Champaign-Urbana starts pretty soon!  I’m on a couple of teams that play on Mondays and Wednesdays.  My first games take place this Saturday in a tournament at Dodds Park, and I am itching to get out there in a live game.  For those of you who also play softball, you know what I mean.

-  About time for bed, ttyl.  I-L-L…
