It is not unusual for something to come up with a guest and have to reschedule. It happens now and then...but thankfully not too often.

I don't usually mind if my schedule and I are treated with the respect of knowing that a cancelation on a talk show can leave a segment without a topic! With notice I can fill the slot and it is not an issue. In most cases the guest is very apologetic and is anxious to reschedule.
One such case is the world-renowned chef Eric Ripert, who is best known for his appearances on the hit television show "Top Chef" on Bravo. He is also known for his entertaining appearances on "Late Show with David Letterman." He was scheduled to be on the show the week before Christmas, but he had a snag in his schedule and had to rescheudle. No problem...He i snow scheduled to be on the show in mid-January.
Sometimes though it is frustrating when guests are booked and then for no reason decide not to do it. One such geust recently was the mother of the rapper Eminem. While we don't play rap on the station, the conflict between Eminem and his mother has been headline entertainment news and she was scheduled to be on the show to discuss it all. Ends up she forgot about the interview with me and a couple of others, and canceled as she didn't feel like doing them. Nice.
Another recently example was Rick DeVos, co-founder of Amway and Chairman of the NBA's Orlando Magic. He seemed excited to come on the show to discuss his fascinating career and rise to the top and his new book "Ten Powerful Phrases For Powerful People." Ends up the day of the interview, which I promoted hevaily, he decided he din't want to do it with no explanation and that he would reschedule.
Last minute cancelations are especially tough and disrespectful. I have to admit my powerful phrase for Mr. Devos was not positive, though I am a very positive person. I read his book and made many notes over several hours of preparation for our highly-anticipated conversation. As the co-founder of Amway and Chairman of the Orlando Magic, Mr. Devos certainly doesn't need the money. If interested, perhaps save some money and check it out at the library instead.
I have to say most times when there is a schedule change, most people are apologetic and anxious to reschedule. One cannot schedule 64-80 guests each month with a few schedule changes, but thanks to those who must who gove notice if possible and understand what it takes to program a show!
