My favorite 'guilty pleasure' show debuts tonight! "American idol" premieres its new season tonight with the first phase of auditions. While these shows are my least favorite because they tend to be more mean in nature and purposefully feature the worst or ridiculous people (even though they say they do not). Producers do say they are going to try to include more 'talented' people in the early mix this year, so we will have to see if they hold true to that.

I am excited to speak to Rickey Minor coming up. He is the talented musician who has worked with Whitney Houston, Gladys Knight, Elton John, Ray Charles, Barry Manilow, B.B. King and so many more legends. he has writen a terrific new book "There's No Traffic on the Extra Mile." I cannot remember a book I have enjoyed reading so much recently as I have this book. It intersperses his personal stories on "Idol" and working with the stars with his ideas of how we can all be more successful in life. Really, really good. He is also working with Whitney Houston now on her comeback album and says it is going great and she is in top form. He said this is the album she needs to return her to the top of the music scene. Can't wait to hear it. It is always fun to talk to the kids from "American Idol." Recently had Season Two winner Ruben Studdard on the show and he was happy to talk about his "Idol" experience. While some winners try to distance themselves a little, Ruben and Carrie Underwood seem to embrace what "Idol" did for their careers. I'll let you knos shen Rickey Minor will be on the show. Anxious to hear what he has to say about the process that goes into working with the kids each week...and if there is a song that if one more contestant sings, he will just scream! More to come!!!!
