PSYCHICS SYLVIA BROWNE AND ALISON DUBOIS

I very rarely have psychics on the air...for one I have serious, serious doubts if anyone is psychic. I believe people may have intuition or may get a vibe based on knowledge of certain situations or that people get lucky guessing or predicting that something will happen.

But with the show that I do, I often have people on that I do not agree with. But I do enjoy have people who are known in their field as being the best or one of the best at what they do.
When I had the opportunity a year or so ago to talk to Alison DuBois, I was happy to do so, mostly because she was the inspiration for the hit NBC TV series "Medium." She was an interesting person, though I am not sure I believe in what she had to say...though she seemed very sincere.
Afterwards, I got several phone calls and emails saying how much they enjoyed her on the show. I also received an email and a letter saying how my airing the interview was being anti-religious. I certainly respect the views of everyone. And anyone who knows me, knows that I try my hardest to lead a faith-based life and try to raise my son the same way.
I did find her a fascinating person...I'm not sure I buy into what she says, but I do enjoy having interesting people on the show. Listener's can make up their own minds, and I try to say that as well before and after the segment.
I have had on conspiracy theorists related to JFK, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, 9-11 and more. It is interesting to get that point of view but most of the time I do not personally agree with them. I remember one guy was way out there...and I had one listener email me saying they he was a nut but he was so far out there she could not turn off the radio!
Sylvia Browne is perhaps the best known psychic today. She appears regularly on "Larry King" and "Montel Williams" (which was recently canceled). I had the opportunity to tape an interview with her today and I said yes. She is a well-known person and as I said, I love having people known in their field on the show.
"All Pets Go To Heaven" is her latest book and over the past 50 years has had numerous NY Times bestsellers. I am sure I will get some reponse saying that she is not to be taken seriously. Others will be pleased to hear someone with high national exposure on the show. Decide for yourself. I for one have serous doubts.
The interview will air on Thursday, January 15 at 2:15 p.m. I have to say she was only available in the morning, so I had to record the conversation. There must have been something going on because I bought new disks recently and put in a new one to record the interview and it would only record in 15 second segments or so. Was it the recorder? Was it a bad disk? Or was there something from the 'other side' communicating with me? (ha).
She was very short in her answers and did not go into detail, so she didn't do much to help convince people what she says is true. But she also said at this stage in her life, she doesn't really care if people take her seriously or not.
Decide for yourself. Maybe you already have. If you don't believe in what she says, accept what she has to say as pure entertainment. For me...I hope I get to see my canine soul mate Danny again as she says I will...but I have no idea if I will or not.
For me, I get excited having interesting people on the show, whether I agree with them or not. Sylvia Browne is that for sure. Do I believe what she has psychic talents? No, I don't think so. There is always that little question mark though.
Two reasons why I do not believe: 1) A couple of years ago some friends and I were at the Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. It was nearing the end of the run and a 'psychic' was giving half-price readings. That made it affordable and we laughed and said 'what the heck,' let's do it just for fun. I started to write her a check and she said "I'm sorry I do not accept checks." I replied: "If you were a real psychic, you would know my check is good." She gave me the reading. Oh, and everything she said would come true...did not.
Also, I had a 'psychic' on the show during one of the great Chicago White Sox years. I forgot her name, but she came from a supposed family of psychics. I asked her if the Chicago White Sox would make it to the World Series. She said "That's baseball, right?" Seems she should have known that, right. And she said that they would. They did not make it that year. So much for her credibility.
I see Sylvia Browne on Thursday as an entertaining guest. I hope you do too, and don't 'read' too much into it. And if she makes you feel good about the fact that she says we will see our beloved pets again, then that is fine. I hope we do. But I'm not sure Sylvia or anyone on this earth knows for sure.
