AMERICAN IDOL

We're getting down to the wire now on "American Idol." Two went home last night because the judges used their save on Matt Giraud last week. The right two went home: Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai. Lil Rounds never really developed into the potentially hot R&B singer that was originally predicted. Her voice was good, but not at the Jennifer Hudson level that had been discussed. Anoop is solid, but he was a bit cocky and that didn't do much for his appeal. At this point, I don't really feel bad for those going home because they will be on tour, which is an amazing opportunity.

My prediction for the Top Three: Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen. Unless something unforseen occurs, it's a lock for Adam.
Danny has always been a favorite but he is starting to sound the same.
Still, he will be in the top three. Adam is great and awesomely creative,
but he has to watching his screaming. I had two wine glasses break last
week. Kris was one of those finalists that was there and good, but in
recent weeks he has surprised everyone by his creativity and has jumped to
the top of the heap. He could be one of those that will not win, but has
carved out his own identity and be successful beyond the show.
I would have voted differently for the double-elimination this week. I
would have voted for Lil and Kara. The fourth judge is just not working.
Nothing against her personally as she has some good critiques now and
then, but she always agrees with Randy and we already have Randy. The
four judges take too long. The splitting of the judges last week was
horrible. They need to get back to the original three. It takes too long
plus when a kid does poorly, it is tough to see four judges say how
horrible they were. I feel bad for the kid. Eight is Enough for a TV
drama; three is enough for American Idol.
Last night Freda Payne, Thelma Houston and KC performed their biggest disco hits. I have already heard criticism that they did not sound that good. I guess I cut them slack because their hits were 35 years ago and voices rarely stay that strong over time. I enjoyed their performances as fun nostalgia.
I was reminded how young David Archuleta really is when he came out last night to perform his latest single. He was good, but he is such a little kid! After being on "Star Search" and "American Idol" last season, he is no finally realizing his dream. The girls love his 'cute factor' but he still lacks charisma, which may come with time and experience.
The next few weeks will be interesting. The big pressure is on Adam to keep his momentum going.
We'll continue to play highlights and discuss the show on "Gary O'Brien and Friends." There always seems to be something to talk about with "Idol!"
