Getting ready to fly around the midwest with the 19th ranked Illini volleyball team this weekend. Illinois will play friday night at 6 in Columbus against Ohio State. It will be strange to walk into St. John arena without seeing Jim Stone on the Ohio State bench. He retired after last season, after being head coach since 1982. Geoff Carlston takes over. Don't really have a read on what the Buckeyes are like this season.
On saturday Illinois plays at #23 Michigan at 5PM. Mark Rosen's Wolverines were in the NCAA tournament last season, and are very tough to beat in Ann Arbor. This will be a very difficult match for Don Hardin's Illini.
Traveled last weekend on a non work venture. Was able to fly to Houston to see the Indianapolis Colts face the Texans. Could not determine which play it was that former Illini Kelvin Hayden injured his knee on. He was very active in a Colts defense that was woeful in the first half, but redeemed themselves in an improbable comeback.
While laying over on that trip in the Dallas airport (DFW), had a chance to read the Dallas Morning News. Good AP picture of Juice Williams TD run at Michigan, along with a decent sized story on the game. Somewhat suprising, as neither team was ranked, and most of the section was already deveoted to the up coming Texas/Oklahoma game. Illini football is definately on the radar screen.
Hoping to go to Madison WI soon and hang out with the Wisconsin band.
