Bittersweet weekend. Illinois lost to Cal in round 3 of the NCAA volleyball tournament, and I made my last road trip with coach Don Hardin. This years' team took the program to a place it hadn't been since 2003. Sophmore outside hitter Laura DeBruler was named to the University Park Regional all tournament team. She is in line for all american honors this week.
Friday I'm off to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for saturdays Illini Womens basketball contest with North Carolina. Jolette Law's team snapped a losing streak last week just in time, as they have a tough draw with the Tar Heels, and then open confrence play with league favorite Purdue monday (12/22) at The Assembly Hall.
The Big Ten womens basketball landscape has gotten more rugged already this season. Wisconsin is improved. After a long overdue coaching change, Northwestern can't help but be better. Michigan has stepped it up, and so has Penn State. Illinois will have to make strides to avoid dwelling with the bottom feeders.
I non sports related news; I will be fillining in for the vacationing Dave Gentry on the Ag Show, mornings for the rest of this week on NewsTalk 1400 WDWS AM. I'm dang good lookin' in a seed corn cap!
