What a weekend!  Since yesterday (sunday 3/22) was my last day off till May 17th, I thought I'd get some things done around the house.

Saturday resulted in a half hearted effort at cleaning the garage, as I was mostly glued to the radio.  The voice of Fighting Illini wrestling,  Brian Moline,  Illini basketball postgame analyst, who also fills on Illinois volleyball and womens basketball, was joined by Illini Today co-producer Tom Young for coverage of the class 3A high school basketball championship.

As Champaign Centennial won 61-59 over Oswego, it was hard not to feel the drama all the way from Peoria.  Brian and Tom not only conveyed enthusiasm for the Chargers, but  relayed the  excitement of a well played contest by both teams.

And Illini Sports Network chief engineer Ed Bond was johnny on the spot in providing coverage of the victory rally back at Centennial.

Congratulations to the Chargers from IlliniHQ.

Speaking of wrestling; All Illinois coach Mark Johnson does is continue to produce all-americans.  3 more this weekend in St. Louis.

Back on campus, the Illinois womens gymnastics team hosted the Big Ten, crowned two champions, and finished second overall with a school record score.  Coach Bob Starkell, who worked his tail off, both in and out of the gym this week, was named co-coach of the year.  Great momentum headed to the NCAAs.

Coach Terry Sullivan's softball team started confrence play with a sweep of Penn State,  scoring 25 runs in a two game series!  The 16-7 Illini will host Loyola tomorow at 4PM.

The 19th ranked Illinois baseball team has dropped 2 of 3 games on their spring break trip to Winter Haven, FL.  The Illini will play two more games against Central Connecticut State before returning home for their Big Ten opener friday against Michigan State.  Friday and saturdays game versus the Spartans will be carried live on the Big Ten Network with the voice of the Fighting Illini, Brian Barnhart calling the play by play.

Our Illini Sports Network radio coverage of baseball also begins friday.  Starting with the Michigan State series, we will carry all  games, except the Northwestern game 5/1(schedule conflict), including postseason, locally on NewsTalk 1400 WDWS-AM.  Im excited to be back for my 21st season as play by play voice for the ballclub.  I will be joined in the booth by long time partners Eric Loy for home games, and Ben Taylor on the road.

In addition, former Illini greats Darrin Fletcher,  Brian McClure, and Hall of Fame coach Itch Jones are slated for various broadcasts throughout the season.

Can't  wait for Baseball weekends! Praying for nice weather, and a cleaner garage.
