Summer is over.  On my time away, I was often asked about committees looking into admissions at the U of I.  I did my best to seem confused, and told them that running back by committee this fall would be fine, but special teams concern me.

Had a chance to see Kevin Hambly's Illini volleyball team at the Alumni match.  I liked what I saw from the nations 13th ranked squad.  Freshman Erin Johnson will start at MB this weekend (with Abby Nelson sidelined by injury).  The 6-3 Johnson was impressive in the exhibition.

The Illini volleyball season starts this Friday (8/28) at 4pm in Omaha, NE against Tulane live on NewsTalk 1400 WDWS.  They play saturday at 10 am vs. host Creighton (internet only fightingillini.com).  And again saturday at 5pm vs. Texas Tech on WDWS.

Had a chance to talk to former Illini golfer Steve Stricker at Stone Creek yesterday.  Apparently, Stricker still owes Illini golf coach Mike Small 5 bucks from a practice round before the P.G.A. tournament.
