Each week staff writer Marcus Jackson will pose five questions to an area prep standout. This week's guest is Corbin Sebens, a recent Monticello graaduate who qualified for last fall's state golf tournament and started on the Sages' regional championship basketball team.

MJ - You were excited to play for Tim Hoss when you signed with Parkland. What are you thoughts now that he won't be there this fall?
CS - It's kind of disappointing but I'm sure the AD Rod Lovett will get a good coach in and I'm sure the program will have high expectations and try to make it to nationals as a team next year.

MJ - You thinking about suiting up for Sergio McClain's basketball team next year.
CS - No, I think I'm just going to stick with golf.

MJ - Your basketball team at Monticello wore shirts that said "Do Work" on the back of them. Are you guys big "Rob & Big" fans?
CS - That was more of a Coach (Kevin) Roy thing. He would always have quotes down in the locker room that he would hang all over and that was just our motto, nobody was going to outwork us. We were going to give it 110 percent every time and just give it our best.

MJ - So do you think Coach Roy is a big "Rob & Big" fan?
CS - (Laughs) I doubt that one.

MJ - You intimidated about playing in next week's UI Open against some of the area's best?
CS - I'm real excited. I know Hoss has won it like the last three years and it'll be a chance to see where I stand with the best. It will give me a lot of experience and get my confidence going into next season. I'm also going to play in a couple of qualifiers this summer.

MJ - Tell me about the trip you recently took to Utah where you played a lot of golf.
CS - We played a course called Coral Canyon in Utah, it's one of the top in Utah, it was real tough. The next day we played a course called Mesquite, it's the hardest course in Arizona, Utah and Nevada. Those were real nice. I shot 76 at Mesquite with 30 mph winds and we only played 9 at Coral and I shot 38.

MJ - What's the one thing you're going to miss about being a high school student and athlete?
CS - Probably just the games and competition of the golf matches and basketball games. We always had great crowds for basketball games to come and support us. Since I'm giving up basketball in college, that's something I'm really going to miss.

MJ - What's something you like to do outside sports?
CS - I just like to hang out with my friends. We'll get together and watch the (NBA) Finals and we always get together for the big sporting events like the PGA Tour and College World Series. We just like to hang out and play ping pong, pool, stuff like that.

MJ - You got anything on your iPod you don't want people to know about?
CS - Oh wow. I can't think of anything. I don't really have anything embarrassing.

MJ - Sure you don't. All right, what's on your iPod then?
CS - I like a lot of rap and R&B. I really like Lil' Wayne a lot.

MJ - So did you get his new album Tuesday?
CS - I actually got it a week ago. It's real dude, it's real good.

MJ - If you had to do high school over again and you couldn't go to Monticello, where would you go?
CS - Probably Centennial. I played baseball with Dan Plecki and a bunch of other Centennial guys for four years straight in the summer and I have a lot of close friends there. It would be cool to go to school with them because I had relationships with them for five, six years and I just think it would be a good experience. The basketball team was real good and I'm pretty good friends with James Kinney.
