Illinois wrestling coach Mark Johnson will take over as CEO of the Champaign County YMCA, according to a press release issued by the YMCA this morning. Johnson will hold a press conference at 10 am at the Champaign Public Library to make the official announcement.
As reported yesterday on IlliniHQ, Johnson is stepping down after 17 seasons as the Illinois wrestling coach. Johnson will also address reporters at a press conference later this morning at Memorial Stadium. That is part of a press conference with basketball coach Bruce Weber, football coach Ron Zook and soccer coach Janet Rayfield.
Athletic Director Ron Guenther yesterday alluded to Johnson taking a job in the Champaign-Urbana community in the university's press release announcing Johnson's retirement. Guenther also said there will be a nationwide search for Johnson's successor as wrestling coach.

Glad to see he is still in the community, what a class act.
