Of this and that

I was pleased to read another fabulous Imani Bazzell quote about the Champaign schools fiasco: "It's not good enough for the public to say, 'We don't like this,' and 'We don't like that,' " she said. "It's an exciting project to take some responsibility for helping create what we want, instead of leaving it up to other people."Oh, you mean like leaving it up to the people who are paying for it? It's the taxpayer's money. As such, the taxpayers actually SHOULD get to say that "we don't like this" and "we don't like that." I do not recall electing the head of the "Urban League's Center for Civic Engagement and Social Justice" to decide what to do with my tax dollars.
On death wishes: Last week I saw a guy on a motorcycle run a red light. Not wearing a helmet. While smoking a cigarette. And talking on a cell phone. I bet he wasn't even wearing sunscreen. It seems that there are quicker and easier ways to dispatch oneself.
On the Andrea Yates case:
I'm glad 12 people - in Texas, no less -managed to comprehend that mental illness is something to be treated, not punished.
Although my daughter is not yet a teenager, so I don't know for sure, I will go on the record as saying that I neither condone nor understand drowning one's child(ren), although once I post this I will no doubt get e-mails suggesting that I'm a big proponent of it because I don't want Andrea Yates' head on a stick at the end of my driveway.
The woman is obviously about as incapacitated by mental illness as a person can be.
On magnetic primer paint: Has anyone ever managed to get this stuff to work? I'm on my sixth coat in a small area and it is just barely showing magnetic properties.
