Urbana Sweetcorn Festival, Friday night

Unfortunately, except for the sweetcorn lines and music, the festival, as advertised, did not actually seem to exist Friday night - in particular, no kids area and no Arts Boulevard. The attendance picked up as the night went on, presumably for the music and beer.

The no kids area was a big disappointment. Fortunately, the two very resourceful children I was with entertained themselves running around a parking lot for a couple of hours (with a bunch of other children who had been expecting a kids area), sampling various drinks at the Sobe tent and perusing the buttons and bumper stickers at the A.W.A.R.E booth.

The A.W.A.R.E booth made the evening into a learning experience, as the kids learned the meaning of the word "impeach." Fortunately, I did not have to time to explain why a private sexual indiscretion is impeachable, but using the U.S. Constitution as toilet paper isn't.

The evening for me was saved by the Siam Terrace booth, an ambulance tour for the kids given by a very personable EMT and the women running the Sobe tent, who were essentially a kids entertainment event themselves.

Barring rain, we should have an online photo gallery of Saturday's Sweetcorn Festival posted sometime Sunday.
