Weekend Wrap - Week 1

Every Monday during the prep football season, IlliniHQ.com will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend's games. Here are a few highlights from week one.
THE COMMITS

- Future Illini quarterback CHANDLER WHITMER threw for a 15-yard touchdown and ran for a two-yard touchdown in a 16-14 loss to Bolingbrook. He also threw two interceptions. Whitmer completed 11 of 19 passes for 142 yards.
- CJ FIEDOROWICZ caught one pass as his Johnsburg team defeated Grayslake Central 12-7 on Friday night. Fiedorowicz, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound tight end, committed to Illinois in July. He is ranked the No. 4 tight end in the country by Rivals.com.
- Rockhurst (Mo.) defensive back DEXTER McDONALD intercepted three passes in a 35-13 victory over Blue Springs South. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back committed to the Illini in June and is playing just his second season of high school football.
- Illini commit MICHAEL HEITZ and South Fulton fell to Camp Point Central 61-28 on Friday. HEITZ, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive tackle committed to Illinois earlier this month.
- Illinois commit COREY COOPER and Proviso East lost to Chicago St. Patrick 22-15 on Friday. Cooper was limited to seven touches on offense. The Illini plan to use Cooper in the defensive backfield.
- Future Illinois offensive lineman ANDY GALLIK and Brother Rice fell to Morgan Park 19-3 on Friday. Gallik, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound offensive lineman, committed to Illinois in June.
- Illini commit SHAWN AFRYL, an offensive lineman, and Niles West lost to Vernon Hills 42-12 on Friday. Afryl (6-foot-3, 300 pounds) committed to the Illini in April and will likely play guard in college.
- DANIEL EASTERLY had two sacks to help Detroit Cass Tech to a 19-12 win in their season opener against Detroit Central on Friday. Easterly, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound defender, committed to Illinois in June and plays linebacker for Cass Tech.
TARGETS - How some of the Illinois recruiting targets played during the first week of the high school season.
- ANDRE DAWSON ran for 110 yards to help lead Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Washington to a 28-10 win over Cedar Falls. Dawson has offers from seven schools, including Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
- Hialeah (Fla.) defensive lineman COREY LEMONIER and CALVIN SMITH, who both have offers from Illinois, helped keep the Naples offense from crossing the end zone in a 7-6 preseason win on Friday.
- Shiloh Christian (Ark.) linebacker MITCHELL ROBERTS helped lead his team to a 42-23 win over Fayetteville last Monday. Shiloh Christian is an Arkansas Class 4A team, while Fayetteville is a Class 7A team. Roberts has offers from Illinois and Tulsa.
- JONATHAN BROWN caught a 5-yard touchdown pass to help lead Memphis Christian Brothers to a 17-7 win over Germantown on Friday. Brown has an offer from the Illini and is being recruited as a linebacker by several schools, including Kentucky, Memphis, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.
