Every Monday during the prep football season, IlliniHQ.com will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend's games. Here are a few highlights from last weekend.

  • Future Illini quarterback CHANDLER WHITMER threw for 140 yards completed 14 of 22 passes for 177 yards, three touchdowns and an interception to lead Downers Grove South to a 22-21 Class 8A first-round playoff victory over Aurora Waubonsie Valley on Saturday. The Mustangs (8-2) have now won eight games in a row and won their first playoff game since 2002. DGS will play Bolingbrook (9-1) in the second round.   • Johnsburg wide receiver CJ FIEDOROWICZ, an Illini commit, had two catches for 41 yards a dn a touchdown to help lead the No. 11 Skyhawks (7-3) to a 6-0 upset over No. 6 Harvard (7-3) in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs on Friday. Johnsburg will play No. 14 Herscher in the second round next week. Fiedorowicz, one of the top rated tight end prospects in the country, has reopened his recruitment and is seriously considering the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes.
  • Defensive back DEXTER McDONALD, an Illini commit, and Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst defeated Joplin 49-19 on Friday. The Hawklets (8-2), who begin the state playoffs next week, scored four touchdowns in the first quarter. Read more about McDonald here.
  • Illini commit MICHAEL HEITZ, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive tackle, and South Fulton upset host Pawnee, a No. 5 seed, in the first round of the IHSA Class 1A playoffs on Saturday. The No. 12 seed Rebels (7-3) will host No. 13 seed Greenfield in the second round. Read more on Heitz here.
  • DANIEL EASTERLY, a 6-foot-4 safety committed to Illinois, and Detroit Cass Tech rallied from a 23-2 deficit in the third quarter to defeat Dearborn Fordson 24-23 in the destrict semifinal on Friday. Cass Tech (6-3) will play Detroit Southeastern (9-1) in the district final this weekend. Read more about Easterly here.

TARGETS - How some of the Illinois recruiting targets played this week

  • Offensive tackle SEAN HICKEY and Murrysville (Pa.) Franklin Regional defeated Indiana 14-7 on Friday night to clinch the WPIAL Greater Allegheny Conference title.. Hickey has plans to commit to one of three schools: Illinois, Boston College or Syracuse and also has received increased interest from Cincinnati.   • Linebacker MITCHELL ROBERTS and the Shiloh Christian (Ark.) Saints defeated Huntsville 38-0 on Friday. Roberts and the Saints (8-1) have allowed only eight points per game during their current six-game win streak. Roberts has offers from Illinois and Tulsa and interest from several Big 12 and SEC programs. Read more about Roberts here.
  • Illinois recruits COREY LEMONIER and CALVIN SMITH and Hialeah (5-3) defeated Hialeah-Miami Lakes 21-7 on Friday. Lemonier, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive end, and Smith, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive tackle, have offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee and several other BCS programs.
  • Jacksonville (Fla.) Ribault wide receiver JAVON BELL had two touchdown catches to lead the Trojans to a 35-0 win over Baldwin on Thursday. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound wideout has a scholarship offer from Illinois. Read more about Bell here.
  • Memphis Christian Brothers senior JONATHAN BROWN had 144 yards rushing, including touchdown runs of 17 and 2 yards, to lead the Purple Wave (8-2) to a 38-0 win over St. Benedict on Friday. Brown is being recruited by most schools as a linebacker and has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Memphis and Ole Miss.
  • Proviso West wide receiver KYLE PRATER had eight catches for 75 yards and a touchdown as the No. 14 Panthers (6-4) upset No. 3 Chicago Taft (8-2) 46-0. It was Proviso West's first playoff victory in school history. Prater, ranked the No. 2 player in the nation by Rivals.com, verbally committed to USC but took an official visit to Illinois for the Illini's victory over Michigan on Saturday.
