If not Snape...

Is Snape a bad guy? Is one of the most hotly debated questions leading up to Deathly Hallows a red herring?

It has occasionally crossed my mind that Snape's unmitigated nastiness might actually be a plot device to distract us from some other frequently present person who is, actually, the evil one, Voldemort's spy, the Dark Lord's most faithful servant.
Snape certainly distracted us from Quirrell in Sorcerer's Stone, and perhaps we should have learned a lesson from that.
What about someone utterly innocuous, like Flitwick? Talk about under the radar. Plus, although I don't think it says it in the books, in the movie he appears to be part troll, and we're not so sure about them, are we? What about the Bloody Baron? There seems to be no law about ghosts not being traitorous spies.
What about–McGonagall? I never really thought of it this way, with this person, in this much depth. But the McGonagall theorists have to at least make you say, "hmmm."
Who else could it be? Vote in the July 6 poll or leave your suggestions in the comment area.
