More on the Fresno State mistake

The reaction to the home-and-home series the football team has in the future with Fresno State has been predictable and correct: it was a silly decision.

And although I certainly don't always agree with a lot of the IlliniBoard posters, the overwhelming negative response is warranted this time. One poster (and I apologize for not getting the logon name here) has the idea that the next contract negotiations with Coach Zook should include more control over the scheduling...especially in light of this potential disaster. DO THIS NOW.

Don't read this as being disrespectful of Fresno St., they've put together a solid program recently. But that's one of the reasons this is a bad idea. Even if they are better and win, Illinois will take a bigger hit than if they would lose to a BCS team. Beating them would have the same general effect as beating La.-Lafayette by much less than expected.

Loy,

When are you going to realize that the Illiniboard represents about .00002% of the ILLINI fandom? Repeatedly quoting that board's writings and quotes does absolutely nothing for your integrity and stature as a writer except reduce it.

I still think the Fresno State home and home is a good idea! It beats beating the crap out of say Buffalo or Texas State.
