Here's why BYU didn't move up into the upper echelon of the polls, they weren't good enough, and the pollsters knew it.
The upper seats of the rankings should be for the best teams in the country, and BYU is not one of them, despite their undefeated record heading into the TCU game.
Too many times, good-not-great teams rise up the ratings because they beat mediocre opposition while much better teams lose to better teams. Not falsely elevating BYU in this way was a rare smart move by the poll voters, and TCU added the physical justification by dismantling BYU.
