Odds and Ends

*I note with a bit of sadness the retirement of Don Hardin. Talk about one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I'm glad that he gets to go on his own terms, having built up once again an extremely strong Illini Volleyball program. Coach has always been very patient with me about my lack of knowledge on the sport, and has always been willing to answer my dumb questions. Thank you Coach and we'll see you around.

*Brian Moline is no longer allowed to go to Mexico after he called the play-by-play of the Illini Women's losses in the Cancun tournament.

*A tremendous start for the Illini Men's basketball team, it's nice to see a team that has seemingly bought into the system. There will still be a few tough setbacks as this team comes together, so try and stay patient.

*Illini Hockey has their last home weekend of the semester Friday and Saturday. They had a very hard time with rival Lindenwood, splitting a two game series. Frankly, they were lucky to win one, given how they were out-shot in both games. Coach Cassell will be on with me Thursday night to talk about the club.

*They haven't told me I can't do this so I will. Lately I've been checking out the Illini Basketball blog at  http://www.smilepolitely.com/sports/illini-basketball/. They have blogs on other subjects as well, and I cannot vouch for that content. But Rob McColley and the others contributing to the Illini Basketball blog have been doing some interesting things there. For a little different take on the team, check it out.
