Missing the point on football scheduling

Western Michigan was just creamed in their bowl game the other day. That game the "Stop Whining About the Schedule" patrol fuel to start in again.
Here's the facts, plain and simple. Scheduling an away game (no rational person believes it was a real neutral field game) against a MAC team makes no sense whatsoever. Illinois was so set up to lose that game...
Yes they should have won, and no, if they don't beat WMich they don't deserve to go to a bowl. The point is, THEY NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THAT PREDICAMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Scheduling a better-than-average team (and WMich was that) that is not a BCS team is a lose-lose situation. If you win, no one cares because you should win. If you lose your season becomes a disaster, and it was.
Scheduling TWO such teams at the end of the season (and Cincinnati might as well be non-BCS) is not just a lose-lose situation, it is ridiculous to do on purpose...and that's exactly what has happened.

Totally agree. Why is it that all the other Big 10 teams manage to have better nonconference schedules than Illinois?
