The arrow continues to point up for Mike Small's Illini men's golf team.
All the way to the top, in fact.
The latest computer rankings by Golfstat have Illinois No. 1 in the nation. The Illini, coming off their second consecutive tournament victory, rose four spots in the latest ratings.
This is a particularly significant development because Bloomington-based Golfstat is the primary computer rating utilized by the NCAA to determine fields for its regional tournaments.
Illinois also is ranked third in the latest Golfweek computer rankings, trailing Oklahoma State and Arkansas.
Small has a vote in the Golf World/Nike coaches' poll. In Golf World's lone regular-season poll to date, the Illini were not ranked but did receive the third-most points among teams outside the Top 25. Look for Illinois to hold a prominent spot when this poll is updated next week.
The Illini will make their last appearance in Illinois for the fall on Sunday and Monday, when they compete in the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal
