I woke up at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning with these sounds bursting out of my head:

"When you have four running backs there is a chance that you have no running backs because you can't properly prepare four at one time." Craig James, ABC/ESPN.

"DuShane....DuKane.....DuFrame......" Mike Patrick, ABC/ESPN on trying to pronounce one running back.

"We need a flyover before the game to get our guys jacked up." Crazed Flyover Fan who chats with Loren Tate and me Monday mornings.

"Our defense wore down. Next time we'll have to play more people." Ron Zook. (Ron, how many 'next times' are left?

"Beating any Big Ten team on the road is BIG!!" Kevin Hambly responding to the question 'How big is this?' following the volleyball team's thrilling come from behind five-set win over #6 Michigan after dropping a five-setter the night before at Michigan State.

"Why not try an onsides kick? When your defense has proven that they can't stop 'em, what difference does it make where they get the ball? At this stage, you gotta take chances." Craig James, ABC/ESPN, following Illinois' touchdown with about 8 minutes to go. (The Illini kicked off deep)

"We had to go to a wedding and missed the game. I guess we had more fun at the wedding." Illini graduate Pat.

"Why have a search? Just let Stan Ikenberry run things for a few years. He was the best president we ever had. He's just 74. Look at Joe Paterno." A fan of Stan Ikenberry.

"We have season tickets, but I don't think we're coming back again this year. This is just too hard to watch." A Fan leaving the Illini-Penn State game at the end of the 3rd quarter. (along with several thousand others)

"Let's get a pool going. Let's predict how many people will be in the stands when we play Fresno State December 5th." A relative of mine at a Saturday night football wake.

"I love you, grandpa." My grandson Trey Turpin Saturday night.

After he said that - everything was all right again.
