Veteran followers of women's basketball know the success of Joe McKeown, the first-year Northwestern coach who built a tremendous program at George Washington. So it was with much surprise that McKeown elected to leave GW last spring -- after taking the Colonials to their sixth NCAA tournament in a row.
But it didn't take long for the full story to come out. McKeown sought the change because he viewed the Chicago area as presenting better opportunities for his son Joey, who is autistic. Joey is one of three children of Joe and Laura McKeown.
On Friday, the Big Ten Network's "Big Ten Tonight" did a terrific piece on Joe and his family. You can watch the video here (click on the January 2009 tab and scroll down). I promise it's worth your time.
