Several area community theater groups will have auditions this week and weekend for productions to take place this summer:
– The Paxton Majestic Theatre Group will have auditions from 1 to 4 p.m. May 18 and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 20 for the comedy, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Anyone interested should report to the basement of First Lutheran Church, 301 S. College St., Paxton. Enter the north door or watch for signs.
For the first time, the group will perform in the Pells Park Pavilion in Paxton with an "Evening in the Park" theme, featuring dinner options and concessions. Show dates are July 17-20.
The show requires a cast of six or more males and six or more females ages 15 and up. Those interested should come prepared to perform a musical selection of their choice as well as a reading from a script selection. – Auditions for a Tuscola Rural Theater Company production of the musical "Oklahoma!" will be from 1 to 5 p.m. May 17 and 18 at the Tuscola Public Library. – The Danville Light Opera will have youth musical auditions at 6 p.m. May 18 and 19 at DLO Center Stage in the Steve & Barry's wing at the Village Mall, 2917 N. Vermilion St., Danville.
The production, for children in grades 3 through 12, will be "The Mad Adventures of Mr. Toad," to be presented July 25-27 at Bremer Conference Workforce Development Center theater at Danville Area Community College. Call 431-1660.
– The Urbana Park District will have auditions May 17 and 18 for "Seussical, The Musical," for children age 9 to 18, or who have just finished senior year of high school.

The chorus auditions will be from 5:45 to 6:20 p.m. or 6:05 to 6:40 p.m. both days. Children will be taught a number from the show and will sing and dance in groups of 10 to 15.
The solo auditions will be from 1 to 6 p.m.. Individuals should prepare a song that is not from "Seussical" and bring sheet music, if possible. An accompanist will be provided.
Call-backs will be from 6 to 10 p.m. May 19. Rehearsals will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Phillips Recreation Center beginning June 2. The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. July 23-26.
The Urbana Park District will also have a Junior Performers group for kids age 6 to 9. They will perform a supplementary nonmusical play based on the theme from "Seussical."
The program gives younger actors more attention and performance experience than they would receive in a full-scale musical. Participants will learn basic performance skills: volume, facing out, memorization, being a good audience member, characterization and commitment. Rehearsals will take place alongside those for the main-stage production.
A matinee performance will take place July 26 at Parkland Theatre.
The Junior Performers group will meet from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays June 2-July 21. The fee is $26 for district residents and $52 for nonresidents.
– The ACT Theatre Company in Gibson City will have auditions for "Disney's 101 Dalmatians, Kids" from 6 to 8 p.m. May 15 and 16 at American Lutheran Church for children finishing first through fifth grades. Auditions will take place the same time for middle and high school students for "Flapper! A Madcap Musical Comedy Tribute to the 1920s." There is a $20 fee to participate in the eight-week theater program. Call 784-5654 for information.
