URBANA – A Champaign man accused of forcing his way into an ex-girlfriend's home and beating her is due back in court Nov. 24.

Michael Nelson, 34, whose last known address was in the 600 block of Louisiana Avenue, was arraigned Wednesday in Champaign County Circuit Court for a June 28 home invasion.

Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark said Nelson allegedly kicked in the door to the 32-year-old woman's Champaign home while wearing a mask, dragged her from room to room by her hair, and punched her in the head and face while threatening her. She sustained wounds to her face and legs, the charge said.

Judge John Kennedy ordered Nelson to have no contact with the woman as a condition of his bond, which had previously been set at $75,000.

Nelson was also wanted on an unrelated charge of possession with intent to deliver cannabis with which he was charged in February.

He had failed to appear in court in July, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on that case as well.

Bond in that case was set at $25,000.

Nelson is tentatively scheduled to be tried on the charges in December.
