Attempted-murder charge brings bail of $1.5 million
URBANA – Bond has been set at $1.5 million for a man arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder.
Travionte C. Williams, 18, pleaded innocent Monday afternoon to charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, both Class X felonies.
If convicted, Williams could be sentenced to between 31 and 55 years in prison or be given a life sentence on the first charge and between six and 30 years in prison on the second charge.
According to an Urbana police report, officers were called to a report of multiple gunshots being fired at 2004 Vawter St. in Urbana at 1:09 a.m. Friday.
When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old Urbana man on the ground in an outdoor common area.
According to a court document, a gun had fired six times, and five bullets hit the victim, who was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Police arrested Williams at the police station at 2:45 p.m. Friday.
The report said police believe Williams knew the 44-year-old victim and the incident appeared to be drug-related.
Judge John Kennedy also ordered that Williams have no contact with the wounded man.
Kennedy set Williams' next appearance in court for Nov. 24.
