Carle Clinic discounting prices on employee screenings
URBANA – Carle Clinic is offering local businesses a little recession relief.
The clinic's occupational-medicine department has begun reducing the prices of employee physicals and drug screenings, and plans to keep the discounts in effect through Dec. 31.
The discounts apply to exams and screenings for which the cost is picked up by employers, bypassing insurance, according to Dr. Thomas Sutter, head of occupational and environmental medicine for Carle Clinic.
"The cost is low, relatively, but we brought it even lower because we know the businesses we interact with are going through a tough time," he said.
The clinic is implementing a 33 percent discount on basic pre-employment, Department of Transportation and bus-driver physicals in Urbana, Danville and Rantoul, and a 20 percent discount on drug screenings at occupational medicine locations in Urbana and Rantoul.
Employers should generally save $5 to $10 per screening or exam, according to Carle Clinic spokesman Sean Williams.
Many employers bearing the cost of these physicals and drug screenings are small, "mom and pop" businesses that could use the price relief, Sutter said.
"They know us, and we know them, and we want to make sure they do OK through this time of transition," he added.
Williams said the cost for Carle Clinic in extending the discounts will be negligible.
Carle clinic does about 15,000 drug screenings a year, Sutter said.
