PAXTON – Two Paxton women are organizing events in October to benefit the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign to fight women's heart disease.

Romanna Williams and Dawn Atkinson are organizing the second annual Red Dress Benefit at the Tin Pan Alley on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m.

All proceeds go to the Go Red for Women campaign.

The cost to attend is $25 per person.

"We are going to have wine-tasting, and there will be an appetizer and dessert bar, and a silent auction. There will also be a cash bar," Williams said.

"People are going to bid (on items in the silent auction), and they're going to socialize, and we'll have someone talk about the different types of wine, which will be available to order there if they find something they like," Williams added.

Silent auction items will be set up by 11 a.m. that day so people can look at the items prior to the event.

Also, the owner of the Tin Pan, Terra Hendrix, has offered to donate $1 to the Go Red for Women campaign for every salad bar lunch ordered that day.

Meanwhile, Atkinson said a Cut-A-Thon will also be held to benefit the American Heart Association. The fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at The Upper Cut, 149 N. Market St., formerly Shear Styling.

People can get a hair cut that day for a donation, and all proceeds benefit the Heart Association, Atkinson said. Appointments are not necessary.

Williams said she started organizing the Red Dress Benefit last year after her sister, Rhonda Harris, died of a heart attack two years ago in October.

Last year, 65 people attended the event and more than $2,000 was raised for the Heart Association.
