Moderate summer helped at area pools
Area municipal pools took in more money or patrons than a year ago through mid-August despite what has been a cooler-than-normal summer.
State Climatologist Jim Angel of the Illinois State Water Survey said this summer is one of the most moderate on record. If the temperature doesn't hit 90 degrees again this year, 2008 will tie with 1915 for the fewest number of 90-degree days – with just one day, Aug. 4, at 90 degrees or over.
