Half-cent sales tax rejected by Douglas County voters
VILLA GROVE – Some areas of Douglas County may lose ambulance service as a result of voters turning down a half-cent sales tax for public safety.
Voters rejected the tax 4,197 to 3,839 on Tuesday, and Douglas County Board Chairman Chuck Knox said without the $800,000 the tax would have raised, the county won't be able to pay the subsidies needed by ambulance services.
