Champaign council to consider parking-policy changes
CHAMPAIGN –
More than a year after rates were increased, parking remains a controversial issue in downtown Champaign.
The city council is expected to discuss downtown parking issues again at a March 31 study session – and the staff is recommending a significant policy change.
They will endorse reducing hours of parking enforcement from the current 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, according to Rob Kowalski, assistant city planning director. Hours of enforcement were extended from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. last July.
