Champaign council told to pursue grant for fiber optics
CHAMPAIGN – Champaign city staff is recommending that the city council continue with efforts to bring a multimillion-dollar federal grant to help build a community-owned fiber-optic network in Champaign-Urbana.
The $30 million to $35 million project would require a 20 percent local public and private investment. The city's share is projected at about $1 million, and that could be spread over three fiscal years, according to a report to the city council.
