City sends fire and maintenance inspectors to closed hotel
CHAMPAIGN – City property maintenance and fire inspectors are examining the former Gateway Studios hotel for code violations and plan to continue the inspection Thursday.
City property maintenance Supervisor Sue Salzman said the city obtained a search warrant Tuesday to conduct the inspection because of the uncertain ownership status of the hotel, which was being leased by Gateway Studios LLC, which filed for bankruptcy in California this past January.
