C-U Mass Transit District approves $60 yearly passes
CHAMPAIGN – Starting next Wednesday, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District begins a one-year experiment that it hopes will boost ridership and help cash-strapped bus riders: reducing the yearly pass from the current $235 to $60.
The move will likely cost the district about $500,000, but MTD Managing Director William Volk said he thinks it's worth a try. The MTD board of directors unanimously approved the fare reduction at its monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon.
