McCain's surge miserable failure
It seems like John McCain can't stop talking about the surge. The surge, we are told, has been a success that will lead to victory in Iraq. But just what is this surge? Think history. The surge has a history. It is a history of counter-insurgency tactics.
That history begins with the French colonial war on Algerians in which maybe a million were herded into fortified villages, millions more were killed and torture was extensive. This was done because the French wanted to have military bases in Algeria and control of Algerian oil. Sound familiar? The French lost.
