Soup kitchen needs community's help

Saturday October 31, 2009

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who attended the fundraiser on Oct. 25 to help raise money for the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.

It was a beautiful afternoon of music provided by Dan Perrino and his talented performers: Caitlin Caruso Dobbs, Annie Rong, Rick Murphy and Carl Johnson. Perrino chimed in on his sax much to everyone's delight.

Our quest is still ongoing, as we seek a new permanent location where we can serve a hot meals seven days a week to the needy and homeless. We previously operated out of the Catholic Worker House. Currently, we are serving approximately 90 guests a day at New Covenant Fellowship Church. The church has generously allowed us to serve bag lunches.

Those who couldn't make it to the fundraiser need not be shy about sending a donation. There are no chief executive officers or middlemen involved, so all donations go directly to our mission of feeding the hungry. Donations may be sent to Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 648, Champaign IL 61824-0648.
