Meet with council members each month

Sunday November 1, 2009

Citizen participation in local government improves the process and moves us toward a better understanding of how we can serve the public.

To that end, we, as the three at-large members of the Champaign City Council, are announcing regularly scheduled opportunities for the public to discuss issues of concern.

We will be meeting with interested citizens at the coffee shop in the Champaign Public Library on the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until we must leave to attend the city council meeting at 7 p.m.

Because of Open Meeting Act requirements, we will be taking turns – two at a time – each month to meet and discuss issues with anyone interested. Our first meeting will be Nov. 3.

Every resident of Champaign has five council members they can call their own: the mayor, their district representative and the three at-large council members.

As the at-large members, we represent the entire city and public feedback is critical to good government. We hope to see you soon at one of our "First Tuesday" coffee shop events.
