Elizabeth DeNeal holds her newborn great-great-granddaughter, Reis McFarland, on Thursday in Bismarck. DeNeal and three other generations of her family were in the delivery room for Reis' birth.

BISMARCK – A lot has changed in delivery rooms since Elizabeth DeNeal gave birth to her first child in 1936.

And thanks to a request by her great-granddaughter, DeNeal had a chance to see firsthand what those changes were.

DeNeal, 92, helped deliver her great-great-granddaughter, Reis McFarland, at 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 12 – the first time the mother of five had ever seen a baby being born.
