Company dismantling old Staley grain elevator to recycle wood

Becki Spindler of Wisconsin Woodchuck LLC keeps watch as Alan Kirby pulls down a top portion of the old Staley elevator Monday on Illinois 10 just west of Champaign. The company plans to salvage the old pine and other materials in the elevator.
CHAMPAIGN – A familiar landmark for more than 100 years on the west side of Champaign will soon be gone.
The old grain elevator on Illinois 10 near Staley Road is being taken down piece by piece over the next two weeks.
