Zoning ordinance waivers upset Urbana renovation's neighbor

Gail Taylor, left, and Richard Cahill are upset with how an Urbana zoning ordinance was used to waive certain requirements, allowing the renovation of a large house near their home at 307 S. Orchard in Urbana. The renovation will put a nine-car parking lot adjacent to their property line.

URBANA – Rich Cahill has a problem with the city's zoning ordinance.

His unhappiness arose this year after he learned, firsthand, that city officials could waive certain requirements of the city's zoning ordinance without any public notice.
