Postcard from Pasadena

I'm looking out at the Rose Bowl field right now. It's 10:45 back home and most of you are probably already in bed.
My fun in the sun is about to end. It ended at about 2:10 local time for Illinois. Sure, there was a comeback feeling early in the second half, but a fumble ended the momentum and Illinois' chances.
The question I've got as I look out onto the confetti-littered field is simple: Will it be another 24 years before Illinois gets back?
Despite what I saw today, I'd have to say "No." In fact, I won't be a bit surprised to see Illinois return to Pasadena after the 2008 season. Or 2009.
You know Ron Zook isn't going to settle for blowout losses in a bowl game.
If anything, the loss makes him an even more dedicated recruiter, if that's possible.
Asmussen out.
